  15. <p>     DIED. HELEN O'CONNELL, 73, Big Band singer in the 1940s; of
  16. cancer; in San Diego. O'Connell and crooner Bob Eberly popularized
  17. the swing-era standards Tangerine and Green Eyes--the latter
  18. particularly noted for O'Connell's cool, limpid rendition of
  19. the lyrics. She began professionally at 16, joining the Jimmy
  20. Dorsey band in 1939. In the late '50s, she was co-host of the
  21. Today show with Dave Garroway. For nine years, she was Bob Barker's
  22. sidekick on the Miss Universe Pageant, and appeared in the "nostalgia"
  23. revue 4 Girls 4 alongside classic stars Rosemary Clooney and
  24. Margaret Whiting.
